An individual was shot and killed by the police early Saturday in Espoo, near Helsinki, Finland.
The person died from their injuries although authorities tried to resuscitate the individual, a release from the Västra Nyland police said.

According to the Finnish news agency STT, there are no details released by the police, including information about the shooting and the identity of the person.
Fatal police shootings are rare in Finland.
Henri Rikander, a legal scholar who has researched police violence, notes that since 2000, a total of 14 people have been shot and killed by Finnish police.
