Sirens and Drones Shot Down Over Poland as Air Raid Sirens Sounded

Lublin, Poland – On Saturday evening, following reports of Russian drones operating in Ukrainian regions near the Polish border, eastern Poland heard the sound of air raid sirens. Emergency warnings were rapidly given to residents, who were advised to take note and follow emergency instructions.

“Air raid threat. Exercise particular caution. Follow the instructions from emergency services. Await further updates,” stated the alert sent to Lublin residents.

Military Response and Heightened Security

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a military operation has been launched in response to this threat.

– “Due to the danger posed by Russian drones operating over Ukraine near the Polish border, Polish and allied air forces have initiated preventive operations in our airspace. Ground-based air defense systems are at the highest level of readiness,” Tusk declared at 5:57 p.m. local time on X (formerly Twitter).

As part of the action, a fleet of Polish and allied aircraft were sent to protect Polish airspace. The airport in Lublin was also temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

Previous Drone Incursions

The incident comes days after Polish airspace was breached overnight on Wednesday by 19 Russian drones, Prime Minister Tusk said. Many of these drones were shot down by Polish defenders.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence has denied it had attacked Poland, saying earlier this week that it “has no plans to strike Polish territory.”

Regional Tensions Rising

These developments are only exacerbating a growing security concern in Eastern Europe, where Poland — along with NATO allies — faces increasing risks from spillover incidents linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

With the growing drone traffic near its borders, Poland has ramped up its air defense preparedness, cooperating closely with Western partners.
