According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 65,000 people were killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war started on October 7, 2023. The ministry confirmed 165,697 others were wounded as a result of Israeli airstrikes and ground operations.
Women and Children Being the Majority of Victims While the health ministry did not say how many of those killed were civilians or combatants, it showed women and children account for close to half of total casualties.
Hospital records and lists of names have also confirmed the overwhelming majority of victims were women and children. We know data on civilian deaths is limited — a leaked database by Israel’s military intelligence agency, Aman, found that 83 percent of victims of Israeli strikes, as of May 19, 2024, were civilians.

Although they have not been independently checked, the United Nations and numerous humanitarian organizations see these numbers as credible.
