Trøndelag police have issued a strong warning after the deaths of two suspected drug users in Steinkjer, Norway. Authorities fear that a particularly lethal or very strong narcotic may be circulating in their community.
Police Warn of Dangerous Drug in Steinkjer After Two Deaths
Two Deaths Under Investigation
Late Wednesday night, a person in Steinkjer was discovered dead. Police are investigating whether the cause could have been an overdose and whether it is linked to the death of a man in his 20s on September 10.
A person connected to the two deceased individuals is now charged with the possession and distribution of narcotics.
“We are continuing to probe the deaths from multiple angles. At this time, we have no evidence of any foul play, but we are concerned that a highly dangerous drug may be in circulation,” Silje Valstad, prosecuting attorney of Trøndelag Police District, said in a press release.
Suspicious White Powder Seized
During the investigation, police seized a substance thought to be an amphetamine-like white powder. It is currently being analyzed for its precise nature.
Valstad explained:
“We don’t yet know for certain what caused these deaths. However, we want to send a very clear message to the drug community: it could quite possibly be a very strong and dangerous substance.”
Police Safety Advice
Authorities have advised people to avoid all illegal drugs and prescription medicines not prescribed by a doctor. The concern is that this unknown substance may cause a significant health hazard—and perhaps lead to more overdoses as well.
Community Alert
The police’s message is simple: be vigilant and steer clear of any unknown substances. Investigations continue, and more information will be released once lab results are ready.
