Hunger Is Not a Crime. Hunger is not stealing. Hunger is not lying. Such is the sad tale of a hungry man

A Breakthrough Story Why hunger should never be punished, and why kindness and humanity are the most important things It's All About Who Shall Be a Tragic Story One day, a penniless man stumbled into a restaurant. Hungry and anxious, he ordered his food silently. For the first time in days, he did not take a single morsel of bread.

Hunger is not a crime

When it was time to pay, he confessed sorrowfully that he had no money. But instead of grace or pity from the restaurant proprietor and staff members, they chose violence, seven strong men laid into him, right there in front of everybody else.

This tale doesn't belong to just one man. Its a story about how society sometimes deals with its most helpless and weak people.

No Crime at All - Hunger Nobody wants to be hungry. Poverty forces people into situations where they must struggle merely to survive. It is as much a human crime to punish a man for being hungry, as it to punish him for having to breathe.

In many cultures and religions, feeding the hungry is considered one of the noblest acts. Furthermore, the Qur’an makes it clear:

“And they feed, for love of Allah, the poor, the orphan and the prisoner: ‘We give you food for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense or thanks from you.’” (Surat al-insan, 8-9)

Kindness outweighs Cruelty

Mercy Instead of Violence The restaurant’s staff actions didn’t just hurt the poor man, they harmed the whole community. Rather than receiving Kindness and earning Respect, their beating sent a message of Fear, Shame and division.

Imagine the difference if instead of beating him, they had given him food with Dignity. A simple human act like this could have brought Hope, Unity and even Thanksgiving - things that no money can buy.

What Does This Story Teach Us?

  1. Hunger Should Be Met with Help, Not Violence When kindness gives a meal, it is worth far more than cruelty which comes in anger’s disguise.

  2. Society's Weakest Must Be Protected How we treat the poor shows Is what we are like as human beings.

  3. Kindness Begets Community When we feed hungry people, we not only save lives but fashion a bond of trust and compassion as well.

A Call for Kindness

Every starving man or woman out there is an opportunity for someone to show humanity. Everyone should try to remember restaurant proprietors, whole communities, and every individual that hunger is a bad thing--not something dirty.

Hunger should never be punished. Because hunger deserves to be fed, and when you feed it you are doing something good.
