To suppress flames from above, two 32-metre water towers were used so as to direct powerful jets of water down onto the building. On top of that, LFB’s specialist drone unit went up in the air and provided an overall view of the spread fire as well as what firefighting efforts were needed.

A wide geographical spread of resources

The fire was so large that it called on support from across much of north London. Fire engines came out from Enfield, Edmonton, Chingford, Tottenham Woodford and Southgate fire stations were necessary to deploy resources widely between North London Fire Brigade Stations.

An LFB spokesman said:

“The fire is now under control, but our crews will stay here until the remaining hotspots are put out and the area is safe.”

The disruptive effect on the community

People living in Maybury Close and nearby roads were disrupted in the early hours, with fire engines and cordons in place. Officials are likely to begin an inquiry into the fire’s cause once it has been confirmed that the area is secure.
